E-Brake Adjustment

Post by FiatDavidFiat »

Hello,

I had thought that I needed all around new brakes on my car, but after I took the first tire off I found that they're basically brand new! I notice however, that my e-brake isn't working so great.. I have to yank it super high (hard) to get it to work when parked; today I didn't realize it was even on until I finished switching parking spots and went to pull it up.. This leads me to believe that my e-brake isn't functioning properly, though my regular brakes don't seem to be a problem.

I would like to know how I go about adjusting my e-brake. Please help!

Thank you,

David =)

Under the car where the lever mechanism pulls on the cable there is an adjustment nut to take up the slack (actually it is double nutted so it won't move).
Also check the condition of the cable, if it's binding or rusty it may not be pulling one of the levers on the calipers.

That said, even when working properly Spiders have weaker handbrakes than most other cars.
