Sounds like you may have truely narrowed it down the problem. I'm often reminded of the advice Sherlock Holmes gave Watson. "If you have eliminated all of the other possibilities, the problem is the remining possibility no matter how unlikely you think it may be", .... or something like that. So now the next step is to clean or have someone clean the injectors, or replace???.. On the positive side, look at how much you now know about your fuel and FI system :)

I am one with the Bosch L-Jetronic  I am going to drive the car to Atl. this weekend, fingers crossed and vice grips attached!!Upon return,I am sending the entire fuel rail to OK injetors, for cleaning, rebuild, and flow test.I will probably buy a new tank,or re-seal the one I have.I need to research that.Replace any rubber line that still remains.I dont know if they are available, but I would like to replace the hard fuel line.Basically all new from the tank to the injectors.Then...pray!!!

You da man. The rubber hose is avail from IAP and Vicks as well as others. You can use regular steel line from Autozone or whatever parts chains you have down south. It will work just fine and you can buy it in a coil or by the foot. Good luck on the trip 8) . Eastwood makes a tank sealer kit and I have used it on my 1948 famall tractor . Basicly you flush the tank with water to get the gas out, put in the metal wash , muriatic acid, ( gravel in my case to help break up the rust), flush after each step , then flush with acetone to remove any water, then put in the sealer ( which is nothing more than liquid latex) it cures in about a day if you can stick an air hose in the tank to provide a volume of fresh air. It will seal any remaing rust and even small pin holes. since the tractor is a gravity fed system with a very fine mesh filter on top of the fuel bowl, I had no other choice as the rust kept plugging the screen no matter how clean I thought I had the tank. After the kit, no more issues. I will say that given today's gas mixes, there is a certain amount of water in there chemically and if the car sits with less than a full tank for an extended period of time, some moisture is bound to collect in the tank.

I have used the sealer in several tanks with good results. I have heard that they may not stand up to the high ethanol fuels as well as the old fuel, but have never had any issues or found anything in my fuel filter that wasn't supposed to be there. The biggest issue with the Spider tanks is the baffles, you can't really see for sure if it is evenly coated.

Thanks Trey,I may end up going that route.I just wish I was 100% convinced that the tank and debris is my problem.I'm not,but really dont know where to go next.

Hi Abey.I clamped the return line and drove it 110 miles to Atlanta for Italian Car Day.No issue, beautiful day!! On the 110 mile trip home,it started to sputter a bit.I pulled over in Dawsonville, and popped the hood.I smelled gas. From the extra pressure on the return,it was spitting fuel from the top clamp  I cut a couple inches off ,and tightened the clamps. No issue from there.
I have sent the entire fuel rail(rail, pressure reg.,fuel line,hoses,injectors,etc..) to OK Injectors.I spoke for a while with the owner, and it sound like a great service.Everything flow tested ,before and after.Ultrasonic cleaning of all components.New hoses, seals, clamps on the injectors. They will also service the cold start and test the regulator.1 day turnaround and I get it back ready to install. All for $135.00.I will wait until it gets back and look at the results before I do anything else.I want to make sure that was the issue. If so,the tank comes out and a new tank goes in!I dont want to do this again

I did Mark.I found a manual that specified the ammount(dont remember exactly what that was),and it was pretty much right where it was supposed to be.After the volume test,I pretty well feel that it must be injector.I sent the rail off with the old injector on it,and kept the one I bought from you.At worst,I will have all clean injectors and components and a new spare. If the results say it wasnt the injectors......there is a nice red Miata for sale just up the street!!

Blasphemy!

I saw your other post ( http://fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=20779 ) about the hard fuel line. I'm linking it here so that we have visibility to all related posts to this issue.

Craig , how does the car perform now???? I'm guessing that you have your serviced injectors and fuel rail back and have them installed.

Michael,I have the injectors back http://wwwe.fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopi ... =5&t=20853 ,but... I blew thru all the lines and decided to redo the volume test to see if results varied.I ran the test first from the filter.Obviously the volume was high and the fuel was crystal clear.I hooked the filter back up to the hard line and ran the test ..6 times.Volume was exactly where it was supposed to be(1 1/2 to 2 liters per minute). The bad news ,there is junk in the bottom of the pan every time.I think my debris in the hard line and not the tank!I will not run fuel into these beautiful injectors until that is resolved.
