The throw-out bearing in my '78 is very noisy, constantly rattles. I am thinking about buying a whole new clutch kit and having it installed. What would be a reasonable labor cost to do the job? I might consider doing it myself, but would prefer to pay a few hundred bucks to someone with more experience and better tools !
Thanks.
Joe

Re: Clutch replacement
Not really a difficult thing to do. perhaps the first time might take several hours. Nice if someone was nearby as a coach.
I like to have the flywheel machined before a new clutch goes on. Some don't machine and some do.
Perhaps if there is a machinest that will do the flywheel, perhaps consider shaving a few pounds off the flywheel, engine can spool up a bit quicker.

Re: Clutch replacement
I would say a shop would likely charge about four hours labor to do it. Not sure what the labor rate is in your area, but if we assume $80 then it come to $320 in labor. You need to call around to be sure.
Good time to replace the guibo and check the trans mount, clutch throw out arm, cable, and pivot nut on the end of the cable. Also check that the body to bell housing ground cable is in good shape.

Re: Clutch replacement
Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll get a quote from my local Fiat mechanic then I'll decide what to do. For 300 bucks, I might just save myself the aggravation and have him to it. Thanks again!
