I need to get to the connector for my horn. I can almost get it without removing the nut under the horn button, but can't quite make it.
No wrench I have works and I don't have a socket set big enough. But it's screwed on so tight I may not be able to get it turning anyway. Does it just need more elbow grease?

You just need the proper size socket. I think it is a 24mm, possibly 27mm.

It's a 24 MM. If you have a 15/16 or a 1" either of those will work as well. I've used a 1", but it was pointed out on a previous post that 15/16 is closer to 24 MM than 1" is.

Re: How to remove the nut form the steering column
After removing the nut, you're still not done. Use a special tool called a "wheel puller" to remove the steering wheel. This shade-tree method also works: Thread the nut on to the column only a few turns. Then take two hammers, one of which must be the ball-peen variety. Place the "ball" of that hammer against and in-line with the column. Strike the ball-peen hammer with another hammer at the while an assistant (seated in the drivers seat) simultaneously yanks at the wheel. A couple of whacks usually does the trick. (The nut is loosely attached to safeguard the assistant from smacking themselves in the face when the wheel breaks free )

I had to use this on other cars, but so far every Fiat wheel has come loose after just a few good smacks with my fist on the wheel.

Re: How to remove the nut form the steering column
Thanks for the advice.
I just got a shop manual, but I can't seem to find the pages about the horn and wiring.
Hammers, I got. So maybe on the weekend....

None of these posts deal with the issue of the nut holding onto the wheel. Much more difficult to remove!

The steering wheel comes off easy enough, but the nut won't budge.JConnerly wrote:None of these posts deal with the issue of the nut holding onto the wheel. Much more difficult to remove!
Are you referring to the smaller wheel that surrounds the nut? That thing doesn't budge either.
Hopefully with a the proper sized socket I can get it off. It's not something I'd pay a mechanic to do.
Thanks.
