Re: Back on 4 cylinders,but...
Hey...its worth a try!! This Georgia boy was born, raised, and lived 36 years in Palm Beach County!!!! I come from a long line of ''crackers'' that still live in Central Fla. in the Okeechobee,Sebring, and Lake Placid areas.Yee-Haww
I am not good with electronics. To test the ohms reading on my coolant sensor, where should I set the multimeter.I have it at 2K on the ohms side.I cant really interpret my readings,as they give a temperature variance in the manual.Air temp or water temp?I just got a reading of 1.098 at the 2K setting at ????? temp
I dropped and unplugged my ECU and there were 2 white wire that came unplugged(?) from the harness. They are seperate from any of the wires going to the relays, and have #12 and#6 printed on them. Are they loose for a reason or did I accidentally unplug them when pulling the ECU.If so,anybody know what they go to?I dont see any open spades.
Robert, are you saying you replaced the hard fuel line with fuel injection hose?

Re: Back on 4 cylinders,but...
besides flooding the engine, the particles are too large to fit through the nozzle otherwise they would get pushed out by the fuel. Trying to crank a flooded engine can hydraulic it and bend the connecting rods. Pull the injector rail and check the fuel spray pattern while the rail is still connected to the car. Be aware of very high fire possibility and make sure the injectors are pointed into a catch can

I think I'll pass on the fireball...for now.I didnt really see how doing that cleaning exersise was any different than running it at high pressure.Explosions are big in the South though...neighbors love 'em.

Re: Back on 4 cylinders,but...
Thanks for that.I had never heard of them but just looked over their website.$120 to recondition and flow test the injectors and clean the fuel rail. All new hoses,etc..I guess a new tank is in my future,if this proves to be the problem.ECU swap tomorrow, although I have a couple unidentified wires

The wiring diagram for the fuel injector system shows a jumper wire with a connector from pin 9 to pin 12 on the ECU plug. Is it possible that the #6 on the wire is really a #9? Will the two connectors on the two wires match up? If so, they may have become disconnected and that is the source of your problem. The #9 pin goes to the Air Flow Meter!

Re: Back on 4 cylinders,but...
Very possible it is a 9, Stan.I dont know where these plug into? They may or may not have been plugged in before I pulled the ECU.I didnt see them until I pulled it down from the mount. Can you explain where they are supposed to be connected? I am terrible with wiring diagrams!! If I understand your question,I dont think they can plug together. They both have female spade ends cover in a plastic shield.

They should connect to each other if one is male and the other is female.

OK. I missed that. Interesting though that both the #6 and #9 pin connections go to the Air Flow Meter. There may be something there.

Just went out and checked for those wires on my '82. They are there and are connected together.

Re: Back on 4 cylinders,but...
Thanks Stan.I will get a fresh start on it this morning.I really dont think its the ECU,but I will swap and see. Those 2 wires are so short, they cant go very far.I am fairly sure they werent disconnected before I pulled the ECU.That ECU has never been pulled before! It had 30 years of accumulated dust all over it.

Re: Back on 4 cylinders,but...
OK... not the ECU I tried a known good one, exactly the same results.I am becoming pretty convinced I have multiple clogged injector, from crap in the tank. After the filter had dried,I tapped it onto white paper and then blew it out with air.Quite a bit of rust particles.Theory..it completely clogged #4 injector, explaining why after I changed it the car was back on all 4.Theory..the other injectors are partially clogged, explainig why at extreme high pressure they seem to work ok. Any ideas??? I hope so,cause I am at the end of the rope!!
I made a jumper to reconnect those 2 wires. They were male/female but were too short to connect w/o a jumper.
