I orginially purchased my 1980 FI Spider 2000 while stationed in Germany. I sold it to my father back in 1993 and last Fall he gave it back to me. He last lisenced it in 1996. It runs like a scared rabbit still, though I am having the "grounding" problem I have read a good bit about. So to get started on putting this "baby' back on the roads of the FL Panhandle, I was wondering what shop manual you folks recommend? I am under taking this project w/ my nephew who looks to be a fair mechanic and has shown some very good aptitude toward this project. This will keep him off the streets and gainfully occupied.

Re: Best Shop Manual for restoration project
It's been my experience that it takes at least two or three manuals to get really good coverage of the various fixes you'll be doing. Our regular vendors have them, and Ebay of course. I have two that look the same on the cover, and yet the information is different in each. One will cover something very well and then the other does a better job on something else.
Good luck

Ron is right, gather as many sources of information as you can find. Each of the various manuals has strengths and weaknesses, including the reprint factory manuals

Re: Best Shop Manual for restoration project
aren't dads great?
i routinely use two different manuals. I have three, but two generally cover nearly everything i need. depending on your weak points (none of us can memorize everything).... you may also need to obtain some wiring diagrams in addition to the mechanical manuals.
i use IAP's version of the factory shop manual, and the Brooklands shop manual. I have, but never use the Haynes version. I am not fortunate enough to have a computer in the garage, so the CD version is worthless to me.....something i hope to remedy in the future.
