1979 Carb
There's a smell of gasoline when I first start the car. It subsides as I drive, since it's in the dust behind me!
Is this usual for Carbs or is there something else?

Re: Smell of gas
I would check the condition of all your fuel and vapor hoses. In the engine compartment, under the car, and in the trunk.

Like Csaba, check the connections at the hard to soft lines. Check the hoses, they can dry out and get brittle with time,
I found a few nuts had backed off the fuel gauge insert on my fuel tank and there was dampness around the top.

Re: Smell of gas
Check the 4 bolts that hold the carb on to the manifold. On my 79 they had the tendancy to loosen up. Also, there are some exhaust ports that can leak fumes that sometimes can be mistaken for gas fumes.

Re: Smell of gas
Thanks for the advice, guys.
I'll be dropping my car off to a Fiat mechanic tomorrow and I'll ask for a once over.
