Gas gauge question

The low fuel light seems to come on pretty "early" or so it seems. Sometimes it looks like I have 1/2 tank then on a hill or something it dips a bit and the light flashes.

It seems to come on in earnest at about 1/3 tank. Is that normal or is the gauge perhaps not super accurate?

I think there must be a problem with sender in the fuel tank. If the needle on the gauge seems close and the light comes on early I would say sender is bad. If both the needle reads low and the light comes on early then I think wither the float for the sender is bad or the arm on the sender is bent.

Mine comes on when there is about 3-4 gallons left. Brand new sender unit. Plenty of early warning!

3-4 gallons seems about right. I think mine works the same way.

When my light comes on I usually put 9+ gallons to fill up. That leaves me with about 2 gallons till out of gas. I have never actually run out of gas but I have been close as I know I put a tad over 11 gallons a couple times. I am the only one that drives this car so I can't blame anyone but myself if I damage a fuel pump or get stuck.
