Greetings from Christchurch New Zealand

Post by noelgourdie »

My wife and I have just imported a totally rust free grey/green 1981 Spider from California. Not as beautiful as the lovely red one on this site, but rust free is a real bonus, especially in New Zealand. In the early 1970s we bought a new 124 Sport which we really enjoyed driving but had to sell the car to buy the wood to build our house so have always had a hankering to get a Spider. Are planning to get the parts together over the winter to convert it to RHD and are hoping that the steering components from some other models like 131 will be compatable. I am very impressed with FiatSpider.com and am sure that a resource like this will enable us to get a lot more enjoyment with a lot less pain from the car. Cheers Noel

welcome to the site! Converting to rhd sounds like quite a project. How hard is it to find the parts?

Noel,

Yep they look the same externally... but your's is automatic and has airconditioning !! I think they're the standard alloy wheels. Power windows ??

My car was one of the Turbo versions, hence the 'turbo' alloy wheels, my car lost the turbocharging during the LHD to RHD changeover in 1995 ( by PO ). But it will be restored in the future.
PM me with your email address and I'll tell you the woes of the F.I. and what not to do with/during the conversion.

Regards

Adrian
