Thermostat Gasket

Post by bobbo52 »

Hello All, I have a question about the thermostat gasket. I found 2 round rubber gaskets when i took the thermostat housing off. One was pretty chewed up but does the 1970 1438 engine need 2 gaskets? cant find anything in my repair manual. Help please.

if electolysis has eroded the lip for the gasket, stacking gaskets is an attempt to seal the leak

The gasket was chewed up by not getting it in the proper place, it was pinched by the therostat housing, but the question still stands does the 1970 use 2 rubber gaskets or just 1? I cannot get 2 rubber gaskets to fit properly but if i put 1 gasket under the thermostat will that be enough? When I place 2 rubber gaskets 1 under the therostat and one on top of the thermostat the one on top gets pinched by the housing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
