Hello, everyone. Another Alabama Fiat guy here.

Post by Ernie »

I'm the happy owner of three Fiat Spiders -- red, white, and blue. The blue one, a '78, is my driver. The others are work in progress, soon to be drivers.

As I mentioned to Mark in my forum registration request, my first car, in 1964, was a '58 Fiat 600. My long time memory of that car brings me back to Fiat ownership after many years. A chance siting of a yellow Spider, here in Huntsville, gave me the itch to find one that wasn't a rusty mess. That led to finding three of them.

The wife suggests I'm done buying cars now that I've also picked up two 67.5 Datsun roadsters, but we'll see about that. The Datsuns could go anytime, if another good Fiat opportunity pops up.

Hi-ya. My wife says the same thing about my collection. I tend to ignore her, at least when she isn't looking.

welcome, and post some pictures soon

Denise, Mike,

Thanks for the welcome. I follow your posts elsewhere. Good to find you here, too.

My other two Spiders are '75s. I picked both of them up last July, found through a post on mira.

The red one had 1996 tags on it and is still painted red underneath -- no rust, no undercoating. The engine was a 2 liter that never finished being installed. Critters had nested in the head, the head with no spark plugs (damn).

When I pulled the head for a look-see, I found #4 to be totally scaled with heavy rust. I'm working on an 1800 to replace it.

The white one had 2002 tags. It runs, has a completely rebuilt front end, mostly rust-free, needs the new top that came with it installed. I'll get around to that shortly.

Welcome..I live in Blairsville,Ga. ,in the mountains north of Atlanta. My friend has a Datsun 1600 roadster and we ride together often. We switch cars once in a while ,and though the Datsun has good power it is no match for the Fiat's ride or the handling! Both are a lot of fun to drive on the mountain roads. Look me up if you take a ride this way.

Welcome from the west coast Ernie.
Man, you must not be married, I barely was able to talk my wife into one Fiat!

Craig; That's coincedental, when I met my wife she owned a '67 Datsun Roadster, when we got married in 1980, we sold it and got a '79 Spider.Doesn't seem to be too many of those Roadsters around anymore.

My friends Datsun is a true barn find. He has a sunk a LOT of money into it ,but it is really nice and original.Whenever we park them together ,its only a matter of time before someone comes up and says''Wow ,those MG's are in really good shape!" It drives me crazy.

I get lots of customers that come in the shop and think the Spiders are MGs. The funniest one lately though is last week, two young guys came in after closing time and wanted to know if all of the cars out front were for sale. After asking a few questions, we narrowed it down to one particular car they were interested in. This Spider has a mylar strip in block lettering at the top of the windshield that says FIAT. When I finally got them to indicate which car they were looking at, they said the FLAT that is out front. After they left we laughed for about a half hour
