I have a 76 Spider with a 32adfa carb that has seemingly been stripped of it's anti pollution apparati. My problem occurs when the engine is warm and I am shifting from second to third, third to fourth and fourth to fifth. The engine races excessively when the clutch pedal is depressed even thought the gas pedal is not touched. The car then jumps into the next gear and runs fine. I know that the car originally had a series of switches that electrically cut off fuel upon decelleration allowing the shifting into these higher gears, in fact the switches are still there but for the life of me I don't see how they are affecting anything as I see no connection to the carb and all vacuum ports are plugged. Any thoughts out there?

I have the same carb, not that it matters.
It sounds as though your throttle isn't closing. If when you are about to shift and depress the clutch does the engine race? I think you need to check your throttle linkage and cable and see if it is binding up.
Take a look at this thread and see if it gives you any ideas: http://www.fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=16456

Re: RPMs
Thanks, that is one of the first things I thought of. It seems fine except that there seems to be a tiny movement when I manually push it closed from the presumable closed positon. Is it acceptable to add an additional spring to accomplish this without causing excessive pedal pressure?

Re: RPMs
I think you are better off giving it a thorough cleaning and seeing if that helps, as I explained in the above thread.
If that doesn't do the trick, you might be able to replace that spring. My guess is that by adding another spring, the problem will persist.

Re: RPMs
yes, there is a bush button near the fender which is what should regulate this, I just can't find a corresponding connection on the carb. I presumed the PO had disconnected it. Why would it only happen when the engine is warm and not for the first three miles or so of a trip? How would this be connected to the trottle? I think I'm missing something here.
