So...engine is together and this weekend I will bolt the tranny et al on.
Question....on an initial build is it wise to fill with oil and turn the crank a few dozen times BEFORE trying to start. I already have cam lube installed. I am just a tad nervous to turn the key for the first time

Re: Initial engine start
Crank the engine for a few seconds with the coil wire off to prime the pump then replace the coil wire and start.
Re: Initial engine start
turning the engine a dozen times will wipe off all of the cam lube
Re: Initial engine start
Many things in an engine get lubed by splash. The faster you can get er fired the better to spray oil everywhere.
Let er rip.

After reading Mark's cam break-in instructions I had to laugh........his instructions assume my car will start and run long enough to break in the cams.
Re: Initial engine start
the best method is to prime the pump and fabricate a method of pumping the oil throughout the engine before starting. I'd make sure those cam boxes are full of oil before cranking it over
