Well i went in search of a 16v head and ended up in touch with Guy Croft from England. Well one thing led to another and its now going to be a full on race engine. Wish i had thought this part through more at the start.
Well i have now commissioned the build of a full on race head for the car based on a 2ltr head. I bought race cams and twin EMPI 40 down drafts from Mark which i now wont use so will look at selling.
I have had to buy an additional set of Webber 44 IDFs to feed the head. I wont tell you guys what the tops costing. I could buy another spider for it ha ha ha. And i have not touched the bottom end yet. That's potentially another spider lol.
Guy is making an air box and will bench flow the head to make sure all is well. I have not talked estimated fly wheel power yet but expect the 170 range. When I was younger, i values every HP gain at 100 pounds per 1 HP gain. So if i get 50 more it should work out for the complete engine around 160 British pounds for 1hp gain. That's inflation for you. I cant wait.

Re: full race 8v head
IMHO your previous inquiry about 16v head is pretty much a waste of time. this is the way to go
Re: full race 8v head
well the 16v was only to be an esthetically cool factor. But it did not take long to be convinced i can have a great engine based on a 8v. I mean its half the worry lol. I have more example photos. By the way the last photo is also an example. But will be exactly what the car will look like. Mind you i think i will retain the direct servo, This photo has a remote servo to keep it all clean under the hood.

Re: full race 8v head
I pray you keep us all posted with your progress. It may well be a HUGE investment, but from what I've read, there is no substitute for Guy's work.
Something of a thread drift, but I recall reading on some Fiat site, an apparent association to either sell, or sponsor, or something along those lines of promoting Guy Croft motors here in the US?
Anyone?

Re: Guy Crofts race head for my 124
I am in constant touch with Guy who is a consummate professional. This is a guy with no time for people who want to haggle. These engines are not cheap. In fact i know think the complete finished work under the hood is going to run somewhere in the region of $15k. But you do get what you pay for. This was never my original plan but now the car is out the paint chop and I can see how much effort has been put in to date, I want to compliment this under the hood.
Its a big investment and rarely do you get any investment back from all this work, especially mechanical work. But to have a Guy Croft engine in the car is going to be the icing on the cake ( there is a french expression for that that I cant pronounce
I have photos already of the work in progress and will add to my blog soon enough.
I hope you guys like the work so far and hope that if any of you want to invest under the bonnet that you choose the right way to go.
