The question that remains is: does that piston still have a chunk missing? If so and you put it back together, don't expect it to run very long and do expect catastrophic results when it does let go. If it were mine I'd already have that piston sitting in the recycle bin for scrapping. If your putting it back together just to see if it runs then ok. But I wouldn't expect it to be reliable for very long if your intention is to drive with it.
Look at it this way: something caused that piston to stress and let go of a piece. No piece is small when you consider the life of a piston's crown. If its that fatigued now it wont take much more to finish it off. And that catastrophic result I was referring to could be a cylinder damaged so badly that it cant be bored for over sized pistons. I agree with the others who have suggested finding another motor to put in. At least until you can afford to rebuild this engine.

as for me, once it apart .id go with a total overhaul. u be much happier at the end . half ass fix . may last you and may not
