So...I broke down and bought the ignition system form Allisons. When I tried to install in the aux shaft the top of the unit hits the alternator bracket and will not go in? Anyone with a 2.0l FI want to chim in.
Thanks!
Also..I assume I need to buy a cover for the cam mounted distributor! Was not thinking about that...just more money

just from reading other posts about the unit ...all had good things to say.... . some mods to alternator bracket have been done to install.... and the cover that you take off to intsall unit can be used to cover the old hole.... have not seen pics of the modification to the bracket but will be following your post to see how you do it.... interested down the road... good luck....
Re: Marks distributorless ignition
I had to cut the stem off the plug that was on the aux shaft to be able to use on the cam housing. The stem was much too long. Also, just FYI...the hole in clamp that holds the plug on has to be drilled larger to accommodate the larger stud on the cam housing.
I think I will just have to bend the bracket a few ways to get things to work. I don't want to screw up the belt pulley alignments or put stress on the lower alternator bolt that goes thru the oil boss.

I ran into the same problems. I bent a few angles into the alternator bracket to allow the new unit to fit. It took quite a few attempts to get the angles just right, but it worked out fine in the end. I also had to cut the stem off of the aux shaft cover, but I didn't have to drill the mounting hole any bigger.
You will be very pleased with the performance of the new unit. I just took the car on our yearly trip to Kalispell, Montana (approx 800 km or 500 miles), and the car never ran so good.

the 2L alternator bracket does need minor mods to clear the retaining screws on the cap. Remove the bracket and put it in a vise. Slightly open the angle closest to the block, then slightly close the angle near the adjustment slot. You're not moving the alternator, merely changing the two angles on the upper bracket

we suggest mounting the coil pack where the original coil was located. Since you have to connect power and the tach to the harness, it makes sense. The harness we supply is long enough to fit whether the coil was originally mounted on the right or left fenderwell
