RPM confusion

So my question is...has any one had the problem of dropplng rpms on the highway? I'm driving along at 60mph and 3800 rpm and then I'm all of a sudden driving at 2800 rpm. Pretty sure I'm still running along at 3800 rpm but cant be certain any help would be great Thanks Rob
