HELP!!! Transmission issue

Post by FirstSpider »

So I had pulled my car out of the garage for the first time to put the top on and when I went to put it in reverse the gear shift lever vibrated and the car stayed put, please tell me this isn't something serious, thanks for your help in advance, my mom is gonna kill me.

When you say it didnt move, was it like it was in neutral?Revving freely? You do know you have to push down on the shifter to actually get it into reverse?I know when I got my Spider,I had the same issue.I thought ''Oh No!" I had no idea

It's manual, and yeah I knew it had to be pushed down, but only because I read the manual a bazillion times, and yeah it's revving freely but standing still, I'm scared to death that the transmission is going to need to be rebuilt.

Does the shifter feel normal when you go between gears, or does it feel real sloppy? If it's feeling sloppy the nut on the bottom of the shifter shaft may have come loose, or off. You get to it from the bottom by taking off the triangular shaped cover.

Here is a picture of how the clutch cable hooks to the lever that is attached to the throwout bearing that engages the clutch. Make sure all is connected properly and that the spring has the clutch disengaged. The lever should be pulled towards the rear of the car when the clutch is not depressed.
