Oil leak from distributor

Post by mx266 »

Noticed oil on garage floor, traced the leak back up to the cap. Took off cap there was oil in the bottom of it! Do I see a new dist in my future,or is there a rebuild kit for these. The bottom plate that is screwed down is a little loose, and that looks like where the oil is coming up from.It looks like a small screw is missing holding down the plate on one side, leaving it loose, or are the bushings worn out? Thanks for any help I can get!

This is a 1979 spider .How much of a job is it to pull the driven gear? Do I need to pull the distributor to get to the seal, or can i get to it from the top. Any info or pictures would be of great help! thanks for the help.........

remove the dist and remove the drive gear. If the gear has never been removed previously, you will probably not be able to get the pin out. We have to use a mill to grind the head of the pin down

Thanks to all for your help! It looks likes a fairly easy job. A new learning experience, one more to add to the FIAT note book.
