Do the 1800 and 2000 have the same oil pan?

There are two types as I understand it...does your have straight sides or a bulge out on one side?

no, diferent pans due to diferent crankshafts. one from 2 liter is deeper.

interestingly enough, couple months ago i mounted a 1.6 liter (1585cc) oil pan on a 2liter engine because i installed it in a 124 sedan and there was no room for original oil pan. it's either same or even shallower than 1.8 oil pan. had to use oil pick up from 1.6 on a 2 liter oil pump and crank is spinning about a milimeter away from bottom of the pan but it seems to be ok for now

Oh wow. I have a 1.8 motor in the back of my shop. So you think if I use the pump and pan from the 1800 on my 2 liter I should be ok?

you can't use oil pump from 1800 on a 2 litre, again because of crankshaft, but you can bolt on oil pickup from 1800 onto 2 liter pump. do it and do a dry testfit to see how far oil pickup comes from the bottom of the oil pan. also rotate the engine to see if crankshaft is hitting anything. it should all work out well.
