Dist swap

Post by mgbgtn »

Can I swap the distributer from my 79 2000cc motor for one from a 73 1592 motor? The electronics are shot in the 79 and I can't aford to replace them right now.

you do realize that most people are going the other way, right?

Is your '79 carb'd or FI? If you're carb'd, then you're fine.
I honestly do not know (I've never owned an FI Spider) if the Spider FI ECU wants a signal from the distributor or not. I doubt it, so you should be good.
I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!

the fi gets the signal from the coil.

I'd pln on this being a temporary swap, the points systems don't produce much spark. You do need to swap the coil also, they havetancesis different resistances
