you do realize that most people are going the other way, right?
Is your '79 carb'd or FI? If you're carb'd, then you're fine.
I honestly do not know (I've never owned an FI Spider) if the Spider FI ECU wants a signal from the distributor or not. I doubt it, so you should be good.

the fi gets the signal from the coil.
I'd pln on this being a temporary swap, the points systems don't produce much spark. You do need to swap the coil also, they havetancesis different resistances
