Removing the top

Post by FirstSpider »

I've just begun the process of replacing the top on my spider but for some reason I can't seem to figure out how to get the old one all the way off, does the "rear seat" need to be removed? I feel like a complete idiot right now because it looks like something that should be so simple, and maybe it is and I'm just not seeing it, regardless any help would be appreciated :D

Yes, I believe you must remove the rear seat to get the trim off that covers the piece that actually holds the back edge of the top.

In that case how does one go about removing the rear seat?

The bottom seat pulls right out. Lift the front & pull.

You will see two metal tabs with phillips head screws along the bottom of the rear seat back. Unscrew them and the seat back will lift up and out.

Do you have the instructions for replacing the top? If not seach the forum there are many threads and many pictures documenting the job.

There is a black plastic "surround" that spans the back of the cockpit held on with screws you'll need to remove that if you haven't already.

THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH! it came off with ease, and no I have very little information on installing a new one, I've searched for photos and better instructions on this forum, but no dice. I have one website wich describes the process though it doesn't go into very much detail so I just figured I'd wing it, I plan on starting the install process sometime this week before school starts back up.
