New Automatic Transmission pans available?
New Automatic Transmission pans available?
I think my auto trans pan needs replacing. Can't get it to seal without still having small a drip. Looked warped to me from overtightening. Does anyone know where I can get a know one? Does the chevy chevette use the same pan? Thanks for any help!

I've got used ones and you might find a new one at a trans parts supply house. That is a TH180 trans that GM used back in the day. Generally you can put the rail on a flat surface and knock the edges of the holes back flat using a ball peen hammer

On mine, I always had problems with the cork gasket eventually leaking, swapped to a rubber gasket and still eventually leaked. Also did as Mark suggested and flattened the flange beforehand and still leaked. Final solution was change to a orange RTV seal which you need to let dry for a day and then put back in the fluid. Cleanliness is very important on the joint so wipe off all ATF after thoroughly draining. No leak finally.

Do remember how many ft-lbs you torqued the bolts to?Warren wrote:On mine, I always had problems with the cork gasket eventually leaking, swapped to a rubber gasket and still eventually leaked. Going to install a different pan today with a new gasket. Does 5 ft-lbs sound about right? Should I tighten the bolts in a star pattern? Appreciate any tips!

The Fiat manual says to torque the pan bolts 7 to 10 ft-lbs. It didn't specify but I did mine in a star pattern.
