What is this pull cord for?

While digging around under the dash, I found what looks like a cable with a loop on it, sticking out of the firewall just above and to the left of the clutch pedal assembly. It looks like something you'd pull to pop open the hood, but my hood release is hooked up and working fine. Any idea what this is?

That sounds like your backup hood release cable. Did you try pulling it?

Should be emergency hood release. Check the hood latch and the other end should be connected to it.

Wow, wasn't aware such a thing existed. I will give it a tug and see what happens.
