In the engine thred, I might have found the reason of the surging/lurching....leaking brake booster perhaps. Will cap off at the intake plenum and see if things smooth out first.
Anyway I have several spares about and am wondering is there a test to see if the diaphram/booster is good ? before I re/re the thing.

Hook it to a mitivac (hand pump). Pump it up. It should hold pressure; if not, it is bad.

Thanks Brad. If I'm ever down your way or you have a reason to visit the great white north (actually it was 37.5 deg C / 100 F today) I'd be honored to buy you a beverage of your choice.

98+ here, 100+ with the "heat index" - humidity sucks. Dallas last week (I was visiting) was 105 without the heat index.narfire wrote:bradartigue wrote:

Likewise, come south (I wouldn't recommend driving a FIAT this far, even a new Mexican one), have a beer.

Re: brake booster test?
Ok... hooked up a leak-down tester and put 1 bar on. After a bit of fiddling it did not drop over 5-10 minutes.
The two other boosters I have, same thing.
Plugged the booster intake on the plenum and idled while hooked up to the timing light and the rpm was bouncing around from 850 to 1300.
Took a propane bottle (meps gas actually) and flowed some of that around any of the air hose conections. Nothing happened, plastic and conections seem sound.
The car runs well I suppose when accelerating.
I set the tps after I got the rpm close to 900 rpm but again the Ohm meter started at 1 and then as I rotated the tps, I managed to have the reading get to .5 and that was it. I'm thinking it sould be 0.
I took the air adjustment screw out and cleaned it on the wire wheel. O-ring looked good, blew it out with air. I'll go and blow it out with carb-cleaner then air now.
Plugs are Boch platinums. They were more white than brown and white.
Going to change them now.
Still lumpy idle.
Timing is 12 deg btdc as per specs with these cams.
Can't think of anything else. the surging/fluctuating idle is bugging me.
