Intake manifold plugs
Intake manifold plugs
Can anyone tell me the bolt size or thread pitch or the bolts one should use to block off the emissions ports on a single plane manifold from a 78 spider?

Re: Intake manifold plugs
Think it was 12 X 1.25 . A vendor sells a neat plug or cut a bolt and add a slot.

Re: Intake manifold plugs
Thanks Narfire,
Is that for the big egr one? I guess I should be asking what needs to be plugged and what doesnt
Here are a few pics of the partially cleaned manifold - these are clickable thumbnails, click the image to see a very large version of the image
This has two ports, one looks plugged already, the other has two terminals coming out of it that are bent out to the side...do these need to stay as is? What are the terminals for and should i connect them?
This shows the egr plumbing as well as a t-fitting. One side of the t is closed off with a bolt, the other is left open. I cant remember if i disconnected a line from there when i removed the manifold. Is that supposed to be completely plugged? If not should i change the t to an elbow? What kind of elbow do i need?
This elbow is plugged with a bolt. What should i replace it with? Or does this need to connect to anything?
Lastly this thkng is on top...what is this? If its not needed, what do i use to plug it?
Thanks for any and all advice

Re: Intake manifold plugs
Its been awhile since I plugged up a single plane. I seem to remember taking the thing to a jobber store here (Lordco) and getting some big bolts. I think they were standard thred but I used JB weld with the bolts and they stayed in place just fine. The 12 X 1.25 were for the air port thingy's on the head, my mistake.

Re: Intake manifold plugs
No prob, that still helps as those need to be plugged too of course
At some point someone started the process but didnt do it as cleanly as i would like it to be. The ports on the head were cut at the steel line and crimped shut, the crimps dont look to be airtight, dont know if that matters, i still want plugs in it though.
I'll probably lug the head with me to lowes or something and look around...
As for removing these, how tightly are they fastened? Do i need to bolt or clamp the manifold to something or will having someone hold it down while i turn the wrench be enough?
Ive tried stepping on the manifold while turning to no avail
Thanks again

Re: Intake manifold plugs
12mmx1.25 plugs are for the air injection ports in the head for a 1800 head only. (4 needed)
The 1800 Intake Manifold takes a combination of 16mmx1.50 and 18mmx1.50 plugs. you can use oil drain plug bolts found at the auto store.

Re: Intake manifold plugs
Ok thanks guys
So, do the ts and elbows need to come off and get plugged or not?

Not sure what you mean.
Do the pictures here help? http://www.fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopic ... 11&t=19226

Re: Intake manifold plugs
They do and dont. I see i got the right oil drain plug (same exact one you did...the one on top.
But there are two fittings that come out of the manifold, yours has them as well.
One is a small elbow, which on mine has a small piece of hose capped at the end with a bolt
The other is a t with two different size fittings on it. Mine once again leaves a piece of hose on one side, capped with a bolt, the other is left open.
None of yours on your manifold have anything on them...what are they?
Bottom right of this picture...opposite the plugged egr port
Thanks again for replying

Re: Intake manifold plugs
Ohhh those, The bigger nipple of the "T" is for the brake booster vacuum line, the other port on the "T" can be plugged. The little nipple one can be capped with a vacuum cap.
