Idle issue

Post by the99kid »

OK, so I went to get my car emission tested to get plates, and the couldn't do the test as it wouldn't idle slow enough. For some reason, all of the sudden, it won't idle less than 2000 rpm. If I open the hood, remove the air cleaner, and press the lever back (that the throttle cable is attached to) it slows down to just under 1000...that seems reasonable.

So, any input on why it won't return to this position on it's own is appreciated. Also, would a new cable help? If so, how difficult to replace, and can I get one easily from a local parts place(NAPA, etc.)

Thanks

The local Autozone had a package of various sized throttle return springs. I found one that had the right length and tension. Works like a charm.
