Using old GL-1

Post by JammerX19 »

Realized I bought several bottles of GL-1 about six years ago and never opened them. Would it still be good?

I'd pour it in a large clear jar first. A few years ago I was changing out the GL-1 in my trans. I had two bottles of GL-1 I bought from a well known vendor that had been sitting in my garage for about a year. You couldn't see it in the bottle, but the bottom 1 inch was a milky white in one of the bottles. I discovered it when it was going through the clear vinyl tube into the trans.

I don't know if it came that way, or accumulated the gunk (water?) when it was sitting on the shelf. I basically live in a rain forest so its constantly wet here with ambient moisture. Although I don't think GL-1 is hygroscopic (water absorbing), which means they absorb moisture from the atmosphere under normal humidity levels.

Some gear oils do not contain a foil barrier on the container, especially so if they have been repackaged by a vendor.
