cost of adjusting valves

Post by Italchic »

If at some point in the future I decide to have the valves adjusted, what can I expect to pay? What is a fair price?

Not a difficult thing to do yourself really. A wee bit of confidence and that special tool and a set of calipers and good to go.
First time might take a couple of hours or more I suppose.
If you take it to a shop, then I'd be hoping they have a good assortment of shims. Time...just guessing without any issues perhaps a hour -hour and a half?

If you lived in the central California area, I'd do them for fiddy bux.
Just as a favor to a fellow Fiat Spider owner.
Either that or you pay my gas and provide the beer once the job is completed.

A significant cost in adjusting the valves is the cost of the shims, and you won't know what you will need until you take your measurements.

A local repair shop that works on exotic and classic cars said they had an assortment of shims, so I guess it's just the labor, shims and new valve cover gaskets??? I was just wondering what price I should expect to pay.

Remember that the engine must be stone cold, so you'll be leaving the car overnight.
