Oil dip stick position
Oil dip stick position
After upgrading my 1979 Spider 2000 with an older single plane intake manifold and Weber carb. I now have no place to secure my dip stick, use to bolt onto the original duel plane manifold. Question, will a dip stick from an earlier, pre 1979, engine fit and secure to my upgraded engine?, any other options?
Re: Oil dip stick position
My Son and I just did his 79 with an 1800 manifold and DEV carb. An alternative solution is to rotate the sheath to a position you like then fabricate a strap mount to whatever bolt suits your fancy. Easy fix.

Re: Oil dip stick position
Notice the 2 bolts holding the front end of the cambox to the block? These bolts form almost a straight line to the hole in the bracket that's welded onto the dipstick. I fabricated an aluminum bracket with 3 holes; 2 holes line up with the cambox bolts and the third hole will just about line up with the dipstick bracket if you bend it a bit. That's what I did.

Re: Oil dip stick position
so... funny question:
how do you determine the installed height of the dipstick & tube?
mine will slip all the way down 'til the tube hits the bottom.... but that ain;t correct, obviously.
I figured I;d fill the pan with the correct amount of oil, and then push the tube in until it read correctly on the dipstick. but is there another "more correct" way?

I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!

Re: Oil dip stick position
My dipstick has a flange on it that allows it to seat on the block at the proper depth.
