Pertronix Picture

Post by 78redspiderman »

Hi All,

I have a 78 and just purchased a pertronix ignitor to replace my points. I am not getting any spark. Anyone have a pic of the ignitor with the distributor cap off? I am wondering if I have it placed correctly on the base.

Mines a '72, and had the same problem--I also installed the flamethrower coil. Kept the coil and reinstalled the points and condenser and it started right up. The help docs are OK, and I emailed support and got highly technical information that was past my skills. I have yet to try reinstalling the Ignitor.

A couple of things, first if you are replacing dual points you need to provide continuous switched power to the igniter ( go directly off the coil) versus the switching relay and the other is the air gap. The air gap needs to be set between .010 and .060 from the top of the cam lobe in the distributor. I hope that helps.

When you do get it running please take some pics and do a write up to help guide others

Thanks, Karl. My 1608 is single point, but I'll try again--I never looked at the air gap.
