Sayin' hello to ya'all from Tucson! Photos Added!

Hi there,

I have already spoken with several of you already, but figured I would drop in a line saying hello! My name is Christian and I am a software Developer down in Tucson, Arizona. I am transplanted from Seattle! I have a 1979 Fiat Spider 2000 that I have been doing some "maintenence" on for the past 2 years or so... but until recently havent had the need to do anything really major... now, the car is runnin sloppy and it has become necessary to do some of the bigger things!

Done so far:
Timing belt (the only thing I hired someone to do and should have done myself).
Replaced oil pan and oil pickup
New shocks
New Control arms
Brakes
Some electrical (mostly dealing with hazards and the tail-lights and cleaning/greasing the grounds in the bay)
Replaced fuel sensors at the tank
Plugged off those stupid Check valves that were constantly burning out on me and torching the reed filter sending nice charcoal bits into my carb which is now I think partially to blame for the sloppy part. Or maybe the solenoid... not sure.
Replaced the RPM guage which still isnt working correctly.

To Do:
Replace intake manifold and carb with an 1800 intake and a 32/36 DFEV carb setup.
Replace exhaust, probably do headers
Drop drive-line and replace donut and take care of those joints
Drive it like a bat out of hell and just enjoy having the fiat!

Thats it for now! I look forward to speaking with ya'all soon!

Keep them Fiats Motorin!

Christian

Here are some pics of the little beast in progress!

Hello from another Seattle transplant. I was raised around Seattle and my family ended up in Lake Stevens. I've been stuck down here in Lancaster, Ca. for 29 years now, but home is still Washington. The good part is we have a lot more Spider driving weather here. Good to hear from you, keep up the good work maintaining your car.

sounds like Seattle is a good place to be from......far away from (har har). I know, don't quit my day job.....

i don't see that you removed the air pump, or the v-belt for the air pump. is that still connected to the crank pulley?

and speaking of crank pulley, if you haven't yanked that nut off yet .. be glad you farmed out the timing belt. First time pulling that nut off is a REAL experience; like right up with having fat fingers and changing a starter from underneath.

and, most importantly, have you posted pictures yet? we've had several conversations about carbs and the like, but I don't recall seeing pictures of this car.

consider this my official welcome to the site!!

Christian,

Welcome to the boards, lots of good people here, you'll be sure to get any info and or help you need to get ya spider fit and ready for the road.

So you left Seattle? I like Seattle alot, lived in Mill Creek for 6 years, loved every minute, my son was born in Everett, a far fetch from West Palm Beach, Florida where my daughter was born, but Tuscon? I worked at Allied Signal in Phoenix for 6 months and boy was that too hot.. so warm that we found a cottage in Payson (1 hour drive north of Phoenix) and traveled the commute into Phoenix each day.

Rlux, I still like Seattle, working for Boeing for 7+ years was good experience and I enjoyed the Bumpershoot and all the neat happenings there, wish we had these same activities here in Savannah, it's rather dull. Would go back to Seattle but my spouse doesn't want to go back.. she's from Florida, go figure!

Yeah, the jump from Seattle to Tucson was a biggie!! we are coming up onto three years here and funny enough, my first month in Tucson was the 29 days of 100+ degree days in a row. 1 day short of a record... It was a dry heat! lololol... I love that saying... I just say it is just plain hot.

I miss Seattle, I still own a house up there and have to go back once or twice a year to trim back a VERY large laurel that keeps the place somewhat private for the renters. We have plans to go back. I lived at Microsoft for ~7 years and still get pinged to come back to work with them and every year it gets harder not to do it... It is nice to have that luxury, but my wife and I both have good jobs down here and we have made some good friends. Mark, if you ever get down here, give me a shout! :)

As for Air pump and pulleys... funny enough, but the air pump was missing from the car when I got it... I think it had gone out at some point and they simply removed it... So, I havent had to concern myself too much with that. As for pictures, I can certainly get a few shots up here!
