"fiatinc" pistons and other parts
Hi all, as stated in a previous post, I have bought an ex-Florida spider. All the smog gear has previously been removed, and as I am in the UK, a few mods are in order. The car was manufactured in1979, so as far as UK emissions go, its more or less on a par with a current middle east steelworks. Good for me, not so good for the planet. Anyway, I think, but please correct me if I'm wrong, that the compression ratio on a 2.0 litre is 8.3:1 or thereabouts. I noticed that an American company do a set of pistons that take it to 9.8:1. Thats Ok here, we can still get 99 or 102 octane. I was wondering, are they a good company to deal with, or is there someone you can recommend for pistons? I ought to say that my enquiries so far in the UK have resulted in quotes around the £600 per set mark. Ouch. I look forward to hearing your suggestions.
Re: "fiatinc" pistons and other parts
I'd ask the mfg what the height of the dome on the piston is and whether they are cast or forged pistons. Some people are selling pistons with a much higher compression ratio than what is advertised

CR also depends on what head you currently have on your engine. same pistons may give diferent compression with diferent heads

Mark is correct. There are some soirces selling pistons with 8mm domes that are advertised as 9.8:1 CR. I have never put them in a motor that didn't end up having CRs of over 11.5 and higher. I ahve sound that in a 2.0L with a 2.0L head a 4mmr even a 3.5mm dome will get you 10.1:1 or so.
Re: "fiatinc" pistons and other parts
thanks for the replys. The pistons have a dome height of 4.5mm. Not sure about cast or forged. I might call them later, and apart from anything else, find out what the carriage would be to the UK.
