oil from crankcase vent under accleration --Help!!

Post by ssk124 »

1971 124 spider 1608cc.

misses a lot while driving but purrs along during idle.
Under acceleration load( Driving), there is a ton of oil which seems to be blowing back into the air filter through the crank case vent pipe..
any thoughts on this????

thanks in advance

1. Any possibillity you over filled when doing a recent oil change?
2. Assuming the answer to #1 is no then it would mean that there is a leak between your combustion chamber and the crankcase. So either your rings are shot or the head gasket has a breach.

You might want to start with a compression test of each cylinder.

First do the test dry to see if you can isolate the problem to a particular cylinder. Then squirt a bit of oil in and do it again.
If the problem goes away then most likely the issue is the rings if it is still bad then most likely the gasket.

I think there is a liquid/vapor separator on the crankcase vent line. That may have failed somehow, allowing the liquid oil to pass up to the filter? People more knowledgeable than I may comment.

if the oil level isn't too high, do a leak down test rather than compression test. That will tell you which cyl(s) are losing pressure into the crankcase

How do you do a leak down test?
