Hey Everyone,
Found a Fiat 2000 on Craigslist that sounds like a good deal but the owner says it needs a gasket changed on the thermostat and it's under the dash inside the car. What is that and is it easy to change?
Thanks,
Dan

Re: Thermostat under dash?
Thermostat is on the rad hoses between the engine and rad (silver thingy). Perhaps he is thinking the heater core, it is under the dash. The valve mechanisim is attached to the core and a gasket is used between the two surfaces. A fiddly job with the chance of the studs being rusty to the point they will shear off when attempting to undo. Just a heads up.

Re: Thermostat under dash?
If that's the only problem and it's a good deal you could always bypass the heater core during these warm months and get familiar with the car and change out the gasket later. It would be prudent to change the heater valve when you do the job also. Like Chris said, the studs that hold the heater valve to the core will take caution to get the nuts off. They've been getting wet from the leak and this has made them rusty and prone to breaking. Use several applications of something like PB blaster to loosen up the rust.
