Short Block - carbureted vs. injected differeances??

Post by DocFizzix »

Hello, I need some information. I have a bad block in my 2000 83 Pininfarina (fuel injected) and I found a block from a 2000 79 carbureted FIAT spider. The original block in the 83 fuel injected Pininfarina is 132.C3, and the block from the 79 carbureted FIAT Spider is 132.C2. The block from the 79 carbureted FIAT Spider is in perfect condition and I want to use it to replace the 83 Pininfarina.

Does anyone know if there are any major (or minor) differences in the two blocks? Is there any problem that anyone knows of using the 79 carbureted in a fuel injected spider?

Thanks for your help

No significant difference between the blocks. The airpump/AC compressor mount on the right side may be different, and a '79 will have a hole for the fuel pump, while the '83 would likely only have an undrilled boss.
The size of the hole in the end of the crank for the pilot shaft bearing may be different.

A boss is a cast in place on the block that can be drilled/tapped to hold a bolt.

Thanks much. When I get the bad motor out of the 83 Pininfarina (132.c3) I will line it up with the 79 motor (132.c2) up and take some pictures so we can all have this information.
