Are you talking about the driver's side? I've never heard of not having a mirror there. If that's the case someone has taken it off and welded the mounting holes I'm sure. You'd be able to see this by taking off the door panel and looking at the inside of the door skin, just aft of the vent window. Replacement mirrors for the driver's side are available, if you put one on just be sure to set it in place first and check that the vent window doesn't hit it when opening.
As Craig said, mirrors for the passenger side are not such an easy thing to find. The aftermarket units don't match the 1980 style base so you'd have to use the 81-81 type base and they're very flimsy. I ended up using the head from an aftermarket one and mounting it on a factory base and stalk, mounted backwards.

why would some one remove the mirror and go thru all the work of patching the hole then repainting that spot
easier to fix what was broke . so now what? i suppose i just need to go get 2 mirrors

I would, jim. I filled the hole and will transplant with an early style chrome mirror. part of my custom retro. my thought on the p.s. mirror. the early mirrors were so small that a ps mirror didnt give you much to look at. The inside mirror was wide and very close to the driver so it gave a large view angle that included the right side blind spot.

Great thread,
I also want to replace the back mirror on my '80 2000 with a chrome one. Can any of the chrome ones be installed without body work that azruss is doing?
