Fuel Injection dipstick longer then carbed one?
Fuel Injection dipstick longer then carbed one?
I installed a Fuel Injection dipstick to use with my 1800 manifold. So I checked the level of the oil today before starting the car up in awhile and noticed that the oil level was way passed max. I decied to check the FI dipstick against the old '79 one and it was a few inches longer. Is it ok to use the FI dipstick, I like its handle better. LOL and I did make a new mark on it to show that the max level was higher. Any thoughts?

I've recently have had dipstick issues as well...anyway the best way would be to (after an oil change with new filter) measure the oil prior to putting it in to see where it ends up, I beleive 5L is just about right with a new filter, thoughts anyone???????
Cheers David

I've heard that the dipstick is longer for the 2L engine which was carb'd when it first came out in79. It's a taller block is what I understand to be the the reason for that and the bigger bumps on the hood.

measuring from the rubber seal on the dipstick, one from 2 liter engine is longer than 1800 because oil pan is deeper. wether it's longer above the rubber seal really doesn't matter.
if iol level is WAY above normal, check for petrol in oil or even water

I suspect you will find that the dipstick tubes/ mounts are different as with the EFI gear - phlenom box, throttle plate housing etc the earlier dipstick position is no good and it had to go up higher. The 1600s used to be way down under the inlet manifold.
Remember that too much oil in the sump can be as bad as too little, as it can get beaten to a froth by the big ends and then cannot be pumped/ pressurised
