EFI problem
EFI problem
One of my fuel injectors has died (leaks petrol at the plastic metal join). My injectors are Bosch 0280150118 not the original ones which were Bosch 0280150121. Apparently the standard one were replaced by this different model which delivers more fuel and the motor retuned to this. I can't find the 0280150118 models anywhere - any suggestions. 82 Spider in Australia.

Are you looking to replace 1 or the whole lot? Are you still using the L-jectronic system?
Worst case scenario you could use VL injectors.....

Found a couple places, unfortunately the place with the best price only ships withing the US. Summit racing has them. Not cheap though. http://www.summitracing.com/search/?key ... 0118&dds=1

I just replace mine on my 83. So i have 3 good and one with the plastic broken at the tip.

Thanks for the advice Ron - I had previously found that Amazon in the US can supply but I've been waiting for a month already and now they've just delayed for another month - downside is I'm not too sure they will ever be able to supply. Amazon only deliver within the US but I've been able to organise a US delivery address. I have had a look at Summit racing, price is a concern as I need to replace all of them i reckon.
If you have another possibility i'd appreciate knowing even if delivery is only within the US.

Dear Orford2004. Mate I need to replace one but probably should replace all 4. Are your injectors the Bosch 0280150121 ie the original ones fitted or were they the 02801150118 - these are the ones i need. The injector model number is on the side of the injector on the grey plastic part in very small print (I'm an old guy so I use a magnifying glass). Right now I've put a 0280150121 injector in the place of the faulty one but it is running too lean in that cylinder so I'm concerned i may glaze the bore or burn valves or ....ORFORD2004 wrote:I just replace mine on my 83. Thanks David - I've been told I can use VL injectors but i'm not too confident that i can make these work. I need to replace just one but i should replace all 4 because sooner or later they will all fail i guess. Yes I'm still using the original L Jetronic injector system. Do you reckon i could keep this if i use the VL Commodore injectors? I'm in SA (Barossa). Cheers Geoff

Why replace all four?? ONly one leaks. Sure, everything is going to fail someday, can't replace everything. If one tire blew would you change all four?? One valve burned, would you change em all ? Just change the one, keep it simple.

On the tyre issue, it would depend on how worn they were?? Both front or rear (preferably all 4) should have the same tread depth and pattern... in my opinion I'd ensure at least the pair were the same....

In theory as the the VL had a 3L 6 cyl motor, removing 2 cyl equates to 2L so flow rate is very comparable, it would be a case of finding ones that are in better conditon than yours and no more expensive..so buying from a wrecker is not always ideal for injectors unless you know they have been cleaned and flow checked.
I wouldn't recommend on replacing just the 1 VL injector.
When I was doing my injector research, I found it very difficult to get actual flow info on injectors and if I did they were not tested the same way, somethimes it was difficult comparing apples with apples.

When I was looking around for injectors, I found that the same (correct) injector fits / is installed in lots of different vehicles. It is the power and duration of the switching that controls the flow rate and that is done by the ECU under the dash.
I have the list somewhere but recall landrover (V8) petrol injectors are the same, as are XJ6 jag and 80s 3 series BMW & peugeot 405 and some Saab 900/9000. oh and VW Jetta all in that 79-90 era.
One lesson I learnt, keep injector cleaner additives OUT of your tank unless you know it is pristine. Read that as UNLESS YOU HAVE BOUGHT A NEW ONE. It just loosens all the crud and sends it down the line !
