Hello. I have a '79 Spider 2000 that I have owned for many years but have not driven in at least 5 years. I am starting to do some work on it now. Hope to get some advicefrom everyones' past experiences to help me along. I'll try to get some pictures up soon. I have a lot of work to go but it is running... 1st question. The hazard light round red button...if that wont stay in, i would guess I need a new one. My question is , if I just have that wedged in, could that affect the directional signals? Thanks

welcome! Yes the hazard switch has all of the turn signal circuits in it so a malfunctioning switch typically kills the turn signals

Hi, and welcome to the site. Of course, you know we wanna see those pictures.

I recently had the exact same trouble with my 1980 hazard switch. I have a four prong solution for you. Pick the answer you like best from here: http://flumichigan.italiancarclub.com/T ... switch.pdf

and, when you are ready for more carburetor two litre discussions, let me know. My '80 is an early '80, meaning it too is carbureted.

What are you planning on doing? Bringing it back to factory spec? Making major performance modifications? or somewhere in between? Do you have emission testing to concern yourself with, or do you have other ideas?

Thanks for the quick responses !
I am going to change the switch with a new one but plan on trying to repair the old as a back up.
As for the restoration, I am looking to get the car ready to pass inspection prior to dumping too much money in. I know I need a new roof ( back plastic cracked wide open) and other $$$ things but I would like to keep it as original as I can.
Thanks again for the help. I am sure you will hear more cries for help soon...

You've come to the right place! And you've got a parts supplier in South Jersey.

Welcome!

don't forget that part of the life of forums like these is to get us together. and, we generally have spare parts that we like to swap with each other.

you may find that new replacement switch is a bit salty....someone here may have a quality used replacement for a whole lot less than new. wish that were me, but it ain't in this case

Hi! I'm also a new member and I just got my hands on a 78 124. I live in Franklinville NJ. I'm also going to start restoring my car soon. If your close to Franklinville and want to chat , let me know. I have a lot of things I need to do to my car. I'm going to repair the flooring first and work my way around the body before jumping into the interior. I need a second job to pay for my new hobby, LOL It may be worth it though, I've always loved these little cars and finally have one!

Franklinville is about 1-1 1/2 hrs away...I'm up near Rutgers Univ. I'm going to try to post some pics I took. I'm
making progress on the weekends...getting ready to send it to be painted.

Getting it painted sounds great! I wish I was at that stage. I want to strip everything off the car and remove all the rust. I just made my rotisserie stands but now I have to build the garage to put it in. Now Im determined to do the garage ASAP. Nothing like having the fever.
