1800 stock head dimensions

Post by CajunMike »

Does anyone have the thickness of a stock 1800 head? What is the max one could shave off to put it on a 2l block?

I was told that max on a stock head (untouched)was 20 thou. I'd be thinking that would shorten it a bit, affecting the lining up of the teeth on the cam wheels . Perhaps adjustable cam wheels would make up that difference. I have noticed that one tooth out makes a difference in the performance.

the limits of shaving a fiat head are in the intake seat. there is only so much material you can remove before the intake seat will become compromised. i have never tried to angle mill a fiat head... that may be worth looking into. will have to use adjustable cam pullies and a larger tensioner bearing (outside diameter) depending on how much material is removed

the max you can go is about 40 thou but this is a lot why would you want to do this is it to raise the compression ?

Im not wanting to do this. I've gotten a used 1800 head that my machine guy thinks may have been shaved. Trying to figure out what a bone stock 1800 thickness is and how much shaving is too much. He's never done a tc head and noted that the valves overlap a little and there seem to be rough plane marks on the head. I've never seen more than 1 1800 head either to be able to tell him if it's normal or not and I don't have any stock dimensions.

Over 40 Thou Milled 1800 head you can see the Valve seat was cut slightly but is ok also this head I reshaped
the combustion chamber for better performance so it will look different then a stock head

there is a Fiat factory tool that fits into the combustion chamber that will measure how much has been shaved from the head

Daniel, thanks for the pics! On a stock head do the valves stick up over the deck just a little?
One of your modified pics seems to do this but what about stock?

I can make this easy, if you want ? post a photo of your head I've built a ton of these and other people on the forum
as well then we can get a good perspective on the head and tell you what we think .
