radiator reservoir

Post by mik »

I have a 69 124 spider. I have had my radiator hose collapsing and am not sure why. May need a new hose. Seems pretty pliable to me. Also should I see some movement of the fluid in the reservoir. I can't see that is circulating at all. Should it be? I have heard the term burping the system. What is the best method? Thank you for the help.

"burping" the system involves getting the front of the car raised a bit. Take the rad cap off. Start the engine and let it idle for a while until the air stops burping out the rad and you can see the coolant flowing when you look in the rad. Top it up and good to go. Also make sure the heater is open, made that mistake and two weeks later after I had to flip the heater on and while waiting at a drive through, the car heated up real quick and the rad did not turn on. Another "burp" session and good to go.
When the rad is full and no air in the system, the hoses should be fine and the rad should kick on around 190 degF.
