Firing Order Confusion...

theoritically is 'should' be the same, it's just your dizzy reference is in the wrong spot, causing the confusion with the leads to the plugs.
I have a Fiat work shop manual which explains the process, it's well worth getting one..don't know which people prefer but I bought this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Spider-1971-84- ... 11&sr=8-16

I have that book! I just read the chapter and procedure on removing the distributor. I just don't have a timing light. If I have the whole thing done at a shop, you think it will be expensive?

It's funny how this wasn't a issue till you noticed the labels were wrong so that old saying " if it's not broken
don't fix it " may apply here lol

On the most part the distributor wires are suppose to point toward the carb but it's a simple device that can work
with the right amount of tinkering in any direction if you align the rotor and plug wires in the proper position
to fire when needed . In theory 360 Degrees applies here with the right amount of timing adjustment someone
could make a dizzy work .

It may be cheaper to buy a timing light???
Depends on the shop you go to, I don't trust many mechanics with my Fiat....
If it's all working now and you haven't moved the dizzy, I'd say leave it till you need to...in betwen get yourself a timing light when you will need to do it.

Like the others said above, it ain;t broke, so don;t fix it.

if you work on your car AT ALL (which it sounds like you do) then ignition timing is something you should be doing yourself. it is very, very simple and straightforward.
But you must buy the tools.

Every man should own a timing light. (and I've discovered that every father of driving-age sons should own TWO timing lights)

I'm having trouble pointing my dist to the carb.

As long as the dist body and the rotor are in correct orientation with each other it will send the spark to the right plug at the right time. This could be in any position of the clock taking into account how many gears there are on the dist shaft. Pointing them this way keeps the wires at their shortest without being in the way of anything.

so in you saying this, that would be the only reason?

If it's done this way then you can get the wires in a set by the application. Pointing too far from this position may cause the wires to be too short in which case you'd have to have a set made or keep looking until you found a set that would work. Or you may have to move the wires into the different outlets on the cap. (Sound familiar?)
