I expect you're right, Jim. I suppose their assumption is that most people are not going to use their collector vehicle as a daily driver if they have another insured "regular" vehicle.

I believe here in Mass we have no mileage restriction, but we are suppossed to be driving to or from a show, a mechanic, a club event, getting parts, etc. Or testing a repair. That last one covers me almost every drive. LOL. Just keep a list of salvage yards in the glove box, and a list of mechanics addresses as well and we are all set.

Re: Insurance Survey - Collector Status Approved!

Post by courtenay »

Finally got my Collector Plates today. Big difference in insurance cost - so big incentive to keep the car as close to original as possible - some period correct mods are OK.
Without Collector status, my basic insurance ($1.000,000 liability, no collision or comprehensive) was $600 per year. With Collector status, same coverage is $117 per year.
I have an additional $1.000,000 liability, agreed value ($10,000) collision and comprehensive ($100 deductible) through Hagerty for $114.
So, total insurance cost w/o Collector status: $717 per year. With Collector status: $231 per year
