Fuel pump question
Fuel pump question
When I bought my '77 Spider the previous owner had converted to an electric fuel pump. The mechanical pump is still mounted to the engine (though I suppose it is defective). This car is brand new to me so forgive my ignorance... Is there something inherently weak about the factory pump that makes converting to electric a preferred option? The electric pump is working fine. But it's noisy... I'd happily go back to stock to get rid of the noise if the factory pumps normally perform well. Thanks.

Re: Fuel pump question
I have had 3 Fiats, all 124s and all with mechanical fuel pumps. The only one that ever gave up on me is the one on my current spider. I replaced it 10 years ago with one from IAP and it has been fine ever since. As a side note, I had a problem with the fuel pump in my Travellall boiling the fuel when I was in Carlsbad, New Mexico. I had to put an electric fuel pump in just to get out of town. When I got back to Seattle I took it out and the mechanical pump worked fine until I sold the truck.
