internal thermostat? or external? that is the question....

Post by maytag »

Hey all:

I've been reading about some who either HAVE or have TALKED about changing their later-model cars to the early-style thermostat housing, in the head.

I think this looks cleaner, and would be interested in doing it to my car. But I would like to hear from someone who has done it and see how that worked for them.

Are there any issues y'all are aware of? Why was it changed to an external type anyway? I'll be running a little "hotter" build, so will need to think about shedding heat.... waddy'all know?
I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!

the external stats flow more, that's why Fiat changed to them as the motors got larger. On another note, those 6mm bolts that hold the water outlet down tend to get corroded and break frequently, so that's a reason not to have to deal with that outlet on a regular basis

I went to an internal thermostat, the hardest part is finding a new neck without the "T". I have had no problem with the temp.
