dizzy points at #4?
dizzy points at #4?
Quick question - when the engine is at TDC, should the dizzy point at cylinder #4 or somewhere else? Right now it is pointing at the front of the car.

Re: dizzy points at #4?
Where it points depends entirely on how it's oriented. At TDC the rotor should be pointing at the contact in the dizzy that fires the # 4 cylinder, not AT the #4 cylinder itself. Hopes this helps.

As you probably know the #4 contact in the cap is not the same as the position of the lead on the cap. I've noticed on some of the dist. (electronic anyway) there is a very slight indent on the rim of the dist. I've lined this up with the back of the rotor . This then corresponds to the contact of the rotor with the #4 contact in the cap.

Yes, kind of tricky. Good tip.
Question - One of the crankshaft pulley's is off by a tooth. To correct this I will need to relieve the tension on the timing belt. I've seen comments that a used belt should not be re-used once the tension is released. The belt I have is fairly new. Are the belts that fragile that it cannot be re-tensioned?

I have heard the same. Seems most of the consensus was if it only has a few hundred miles on it, one could do what you are wanting to do.parsok wrote:I've seen comments that a used belt should not be re-used once the tension is released.
Perhaps some that work on these cars full time could jump in here.
