Re: Brake Caliper Question
That's pretty much exactly what I'm looking to do, right down to the red paint. Got all the parts, just waiting for a long enough weekend to put them on.
Re: Brake Caliper Question
INTERIM UPDATE:
I got the front bearings cleaned out and repacked. I used the wire wheel on the brackets and locking blocks and boy did they shine up nice. I haven't gotten to the rears again, but the new rotors and pads on the front along with the cleaning and bearing work has really improved some of the annoyances I was having. No more squeaks and groans as I sit in stop and go traffic and the embarrassing rattle from the right front is gone. Can't wait for another weekend to get to the rest of it. New braided steel lines, rear rotors and pads and some red caliper paint all sit and await my time.

Re: Brake Caliper Question
Sil-Glyde is my brake lube of choice. It is safe for rubber (not petroleum-based). Readily available at Napa or other auto parts stores. It is really heavy duty, and holds up well against the heat and water that brakes are exposed to.
Get rust off the surfaces first. Rust gets puffy, and fills up what should be tolerance space for movement.

Re: Brake Caliper Question
Where does one apply the Sil-Glyde? I assume it goes on the backside of the pad where it meets the caliper? I don't have a lot of brake experience and want to get this right the first time. Or are you talking about lubing the piston?

Re: Brake Caliper Question
Sil-glyde to areas that move against one another, and a very small dab on the back of the pads (it spreads a lot under the heavy pressure, so a little is all that is needed).
Never on the face of the pads, of course!
