New ignition switch......bye bye problems

Post by surfingfreeman »

So after far too long I finally picked up a used original Sipea Fiat ignition (thanks so much Lew!) to replace the POS Lada brand that came with the car and was installed by the PO. With the previous weak ignition I had to install a push button which I ran off of one of the "better" ignition contacts that wasnt in such poor shape. Next I will install the 3-relay which Csaba sells to keep the load off the ignition and hopefully extend its life. The most annoying of all the problems was the intermittent not starting that was caused by the shitty Lada ignition, god the number of times I had to compression start it by running down the street like a fool, needless to say it didn't set a very stellar example for Fiat, even though it was the aftermarket part that was behind all the problems.

My PO installed a push button start on my '81. It seems to be working fine, but I'd like to change it in the near future. So, it was an aftermarket ignition your PO installed? And the one you replaced it with was just like the original? I'd like to know what the best option would be.
