If my car sits for a few days, it will crank a long time before it even sputters. I also have to maintain slight pressure on the gas pedal to make it start. And when I do that, I hear a faint "ping ping ping" as it cranks. This doesn't seem normal for FI. Its almost as though the fuel runs down hill after shut down and I have to wait for the pump to push it back up hill to the engine. Does this sound right?
Once it starts, it runs like a champ, and it will also start very quickly when warmed up. This behavior only occurs when cold.

Maybe check the cold start injector?

The fuel pump has an internal back flow preventer so the fuel pressure should not bleed off. You can check whether you have enough pressure at the fuel rail by disconnecting the line at the cold start injector when the car has sat for a while. Just be careful, if there's pressure still there it will spray out pretty good, wear goggles.
